Free XviD 2 PSP 2000 is probably the simplest AVI to MPEG-4 video conversion tool available. It re-encodes your XviD videos and transforms them into MP4 files that you can play and enjoy on your PlayStation Portable 2000. Thanks to the simplicity of the user interface, you can set up and launch your conversions tasks in just a couple of uncomplicated steps. However, you will need to repeat these two steps every time you wish to convert a new file, as batch conversion is not supported (extreme simplicity also has its drawbacks).
The whole program is barely a one-screen interface, where you are required to select a source AVI file, give it a name and provide a location for the resulting MP4 file, and select one of the two output codecs supported – either MPEG-4 or H.264. Each codec has a series of default settings associated with it, which cannot be modified or improved in any way. However, both will generate a video file with the MP4 extension as expected, but the size of the video will be slightly bigger if you selected H.264 as the output codec. Either way, the MP4 videos will be perfectly playable on your PSP 2000, and for that matter on any other device with support for MPEG-4 video streams.
